Access Harrison County Court Records

Start with the case number, then ask the Harrison County Clerk for the exact paper you need. Harrison County court case records reach well beyond the docket itself. The clerk's official file can hold pleadings, orders, judgments, exhibits, and payment entries, while a court reporter keeps the record used to prepare a transcript. Online access helps. It is not the whole file. When a public document is missing, a certified copy is required, or access rules restrict a file, the clerk, the assigned court, or the reporter is the right fallback.

Harrison County Court Record Requests

Start at Indiana MyCase. Search by cause number, citation, party, or attorney. Write down the full case number and note whether the file belongs to Harrison Circuit Court or Harrison Superior Court. Open the chronological case summary next. Find the precise filing or order and check for a public image. If no link appears, take the question to the Harrison County Clerk, since the state names the local clerk as the route for court files that are not online.

Other channels fit different needs. A published clerk counter handles in-person requests. For routing, call the general clerk at 812-738-4289, Circuit Court at 812-738-2191, or Superior Court at 812-738-8141. The county lists fax numbers and an email. It does not say those channels accept formal copy orders, and the clerk publishes no mail-in request form, copy portal, or public-terminal instructions. Confirm method, cost, and delivery before you send anything. The Indiana Access to Public Records Act works alongside the judiciary's Rules on Access to Court Records, so the court-specific routes control.

  1. Locate the case in MyCase and copy its cause number.
  2. Name the exact document and filing date.
  3. Check whether a public image is linked.
  4. Ask the clerk about access, fee, certification, and delivery.
  5. Send transcript requests to the assigned court reporter.

One Harrison Clerk, Two Counters

Debbie Dennison is the elected Harrison County Clerk. Her single office administers the official records for both current trial courts. It also processes and distributes court documents, keeps the permanent historical record, and reconciles court money. Assignments differ between the courts, but the record role does not. No separate civil clerk or criminal clerk exists here.

Two counters serve the county. The general office sits at 300 North Capitol Avenue, Corydon, Indiana 47112. Its phone is 812-738-4289 and its fax is 812-738-3126. The Justice Center location is 1445 Gardner Lane NW, Room 3126, Corydon. It is reachable at 812-738-8149 with fax 812-738-2459. Both open weekdays, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clerk email is ddennison@harrisoncounty.in.gov. Published material does not treat email as a formal request method, though.

The official Harrison County Clerk page lists these duties, contacts, and both office locations.

Kinds of Court Records

The CCS is a dated index of activity. The full file behind it can run much deeper. Complaints, petitions, answers, motions, and service returns may all appear. Exhibits, proposed and signed orders, judgments, payment histories, estate documents, audio, and transcripts may appear too, depending on the case. Online access has its own limits. Case type, document type, age, and access status all matter.

Harrison Circuit Court mainly holds civil, domestic, probate, guardianship, juvenile, adoption, and protection-order files. Most criminal, infraction, ordinance, small-claim, and eviction files sit in Superior Court. Older cases stay in their filing court. The local plan allows exceptions. So trust the code on the case rather than a guess based on subject alone.

Harrison Record Copy Choices

A MyCase printout identifies a file. It is not a certified court record, though. A plain copy just reproduces a document without the clerk's formal certification. A certified copy is different. It bears the clerk's authentication, for uses that require proof of an official copy. A transcript stands apart again, prepared from the hearing record by the court reporter.

Record product Best route Key question
MyCase or CCS view Indiana MyCase Is the entry or image public online?
Plain document copy Harrison County Clerk What copy format and fee apply?
Certified copy Harrison County Clerk Is certification needed and available?
Transcript Assigned court reporter What proceeding, date, and deadline apply?

Name the product when you ask. A request for “the record” is often too broad to price or fill promptly.

Court Records: What They Contain

A complete case file is never guaranteed. The case's CCS shows what was actually filed or ordered. An event can appear as public. Its image may be unavailable online or excluded. Read the event description, date, filer, and any linked order before you request anything.

Cause number Harrison court, date group, type code, and sequence
CCS Dated register of filings, settings, service, and rulings
Pleadings Claims, answers, motions, and related filings when public
Orders and judgment The court's signed directions and final action
Financial entries Court amounts that should be confirmed with the clerk
Transcript or audio Hearing record handled under reporter and access rules

The MyCase document-access page explains that document access varies by case type and audience.

Harrison Probate Record Routing

Probate, estate, guardianship, trust, and adoption matters generally route to Harrison Circuit Court under the 2026 plan. The clerk keeps the records either way. Access varies, though. Some estate documents may be public. Protected personal data, medical material, guardianship reports, and confidential adoption records are not ordinary public files.

Name the document you want. Request a specific will, order, inventory, or other known paper with its cause number. Not every probate record is online, and Indiana's records guidance sends local documents to the clerk in the county where the matter was heard.

Copy Fees and Certification

Harrison County's fee page covers filing and service costs. It publishes no plain-copy or certified-copy price list. Never fill that gap with a guessed fee. Ask the clerk whether the item is a docket printout, plain paper copy, electronic image, or certified copy. State your delivery method and confirm payment before ordering.

Transcript charges are documented separately. Harrison's reporter rule caps several ordinary transcript categories at $5 per page. Appeal transcript copies run $2.50 per page, with a $45 minimum. Expedited work is capped at $7.50 per page within five days and $8.50 per page within 24 hours or less, with index and contents pages at the same rate. Reasonable supply or binding labor may be added.

Item Published amount Note
Plain or certified clerk copy Not published Confirm with the clerk
Covered transcript Up to $5 per page Local reporter rule categories apply
Appeal transcript copy Up to $2.50 per page Copy rate, not original preparation
Minimum transcript $45 Applies under the local rule
Five-day expedited Up to $7.50 per page Expedited cap
Within 24 hours Up to $8.50 per page Fastest listed cap

Harrison Transcript Requests Differ

Transcripts move on a separate track from MyCase. Indiana sends these requests to the court reporter instead. Under Harrison's local rule, you submit a written request, called a praecipe, along with a paper transcript and an electronic copy. Once filed, the court's electronic version stands as the official record of what happened in the proceeding.

Access Rules for Court Records

Indiana Rule on Access to Court Records 4 starts from a broad presumption. It treats court records as open. Rule 5 then carves out whole categories. Sealed and mental-health cases are excluded, along with certain investigative matters. Medical and treatment records, substance-abuse material, victim and witness details, and problem-solving court supervision files are excluded as well. Even so, a public CCS may note that an excluded item exists. It just will not reveal the contents.

Redaction, sealing, and lack of an online link are different. Ask the clerk which access rule or delivery limit applies to the exact Harrison County record.

Access Rule 9 offers a court process for reaching excluded material. It is an extraordinary remedy. The route calls for a verified written request and notice to the other side. From there it requires time to respond, sometimes a hearing, and a written order backed by the required proof. A public document may simply lack a MyCase link. That does not need this process. Ask the clerk for that.

Harrison Records Beyond One Case

One existing Harrison County case file is a clerk matter. Compiled or bulk court data is different. Indiana routes Administrative Rule 9(F) data requests to the Office of Court Services. Its email is courtdatarequests@courts.in.gov. That office weighs purpose, resources, and the demands on public resources. The clerk would hand over a single file. It is not required to build a new countywide dataset the same way. The state court-record request guidance sorts clerk copies, transcripts, older files, and compiled data into their own lanes.
